Award-winning and critically acclaimed international films discover the essential aspects of one’s life and existence will be screened for free online every Wednesday of April.
The lauded line-up features diverse works that traverse the limitlessness of space and time, the quadrants of humans, the hauntedness of pain and loneliness. It further dwells on the probabilities of dimensions beyond the world to liberate mankind from the extinction of war and decline of nature.
La Jetée (1962), a science fiction featurette by French writer, photographer and filmmaker Chris Marker, presents a collection of monochromatic still photos that depict the story of a post-nuclear war time travel experiment. It dissects a man’s obsession with an image of his past as he becomes ensnared in an endless cycle of memories. It is on view on April 5.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020), a surrealist psychological thriller directed by American filmmaker Charlie Kaufman, introduces a young woman and her new boyfriend as they go on a trip to his parent’s secluded farm. Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Canadian writer Iain Reid, the dense and hypnotic narrative depicts how a man confronts the failures of his life. It is slated on April 12.
A Trip to Infinity (2022), a feature-length documentary and debut piece by Jonathan Halperin and Drew Takahashi, showcases animated clips created by varied artists from across 10 countries. It focuses on the world’s most modern and distinguished mathematicians, physicists, scientists and philosophers as they embark on a search for the infinite and its outstanding implications in the universe. It is scheduled on April 19.
Interstellar (2014), directed and co-written by British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan, follows the journey of a farmer and ex-NASA pilot who leads a ship of scientists and engineers through a wormhole to find a new home for the human race. This epic science fiction story explores the restrictions on space and the sacrifices of humanity in order to survive. It is set on April 26.
Curated by the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of the De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), the free and public online screenings will be conducted via Zoom every 12 noon on the scheduled dates.
