Enrique Gil’s big comeback movie “I Am Not Big Bird” has earned more than just positive reviews for its ballsy, raunchy, and hilarious humor. The latest Black Sheep offering is also being praised for its refreshing perspective on masculinity as it continues to delight critics and audiences for its bold approach.

Independent journalist and Instagram influencer Pola Del Monte @MissChiefEditor commended the film for its respectful treatment of women, noting its departure from exploitative tendencies often found in sex comedies.

Pola wrote in Instagram, “I think it’s a huge step for Philippine cinema, given that raunchy shows or movies tend to exploit women. I didn’t get offended (though honestly mildly shocked), but I would recommend this even to girls my age to watch with fellow tita friends. It’s raunchy but it doesn’t put women in bad light,”

Other reviews on the film have highlighted the dynamic camaraderie among the main protagonists, Carpio, Macky, and July portrayed in the movie by Enrique, Nikko Natividad, and Red Ollero, respectively.

Philbert Dy’s review on Spot.ph praised the trio’s chemistry, eliciting laughter from moviegoers. He wrote, “The prickly dynamic between the three leads is fun, especially when they get on each other’s nerves. It just feels like they all understand the assignment, playing three guys who’ve known each other forever, and are prone to turning off their filters when they’re together.”

Roy Remorca of Cinegeeks Podcast shared, “Feeling ko nga parang ito yung sine na first time in a long time na ang konti ng pahinga ko ng tawa.”

Film review platform Maganda Ba? posted, “Mahuhusay silang apat na main cast. It’s definitely a good decision for @enriquegil17 na ito ang comeback movie niya. The movie got some balls (literary and figuratively). Matapang ito na sumubok ng bagong kwento. Definitely a good watch for me!”

Goldwin Reviews also lauded the guts of the film. “It has opened doors for others to create more gutsy and refreshing concepts for the Filipino audience to see,” wrote Goldwin on Facebook.

Now on its second week of showing in cinemas nationwide, the film centers on brokenhearted Carpio and his big mission in Thailand with his friends Macky and July and their hired tour guide Prajak played by Pepe Herrera. Carpio’s uncanny resemblance with a popular porn actor will get him into a series of trouble with various people. The film tackles themes of friendship, identity, masculinity, and self-discovery with humor and heart.
