The city government here turned over school supplies for 70,735 learners in public elementary schools in rites at the Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS) gymnasium on Thursday.
The items were received by the school principals from Councilor Al Victor Espino, chair of the City Council’s committee on education, and the executive assistants who represented Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.
The city allocated PHP13 million for the purchase of school supplies, Espino said.
On Wednesday, Benitez checked out the packs of school items after these were delivered to the BCNHS gymnasium.
“To our students, study hard and I hope these would help you in your school tasks,” the mayor said.
The recipients are pupils from Kinder to Grade 6 as well as non-graded learners.
The items for preschoolers include notebooks, jumbo crayons, popsicle sticks, glue, non-pointed scissors, pencils, and plastic envelopes while grade schoolers are provided with notebooks, ruler, double crayons, grade pad paper, sharpener, pencils, ballpens, and plastic envelopes.
Lila Arro, education program supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Bacolod City, said the items were based on the list provided by the school heads and will be used for the performance tasks of the learners.
“These have been prepared for the face-to-face classes. Together with our DepEd family, we pray that these school supplies would help the children in their school work and help ease the parents’ burden on school expenses,” she added. (PNA)
