Despite expected hiccups during the first day of overseas absentee voting (OAV), presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao said he trusts in the competence of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to run the 2022 polls.

Pacquiao appealed to the public to likewise trust the poll body to do its job well.

“Magtiwala lang tayo sa Comelec at sa lahat ng mga namamahala at sa mga guro na in-charge sa election. Alam naman natin ang trabaho nila, ginagampanan talaga nila ang trabaho nila para makita ang malinis at matagumpay ang halalan 2022. Magbigay lang tayo ng tiwala sa kanila (Let us trust Comelec and all those who supervise the elections as well as the teachers in charge. They know their jobs and they are doing it to ensure a clean and credible election 2022),” Pacquiao said in a statement on Monday while he was in Dipolog City for the Zamboanga del Norte leg of his campaign.

The Comelec said the first day of OAV was “generally peaceful and the opening of our posts was successful except for some issues that we can’t avoid”.

Pacquiao also hopes overseas Filipino workers who supported him during his illustrious boxing career are aware of his platforms and plans.

He met with Dipolog City Mayor Darel Uy and his father, Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy, before a motorcade around the city.

He also held a meet-and-greet with supporters at a gym in the municipality of Roxas before holding a grand rally at the Zamboanga City Convention Center. (PNA)
