Investment Surge Tied To AI And Supply Chain Diversification
Thailand’s investment promotion agency said Monday that the country has received over $26.8 billion in applications for semiconductor and advanced electronics projects over the past three years, as manufacturers spread production away from established hubs amid ongoing global supply chain restructuring. The figure spans 880 high-technology projects filed with the Board of Investment between 2023 and mid-2026, covering segments from chip assembly and testing to printed circuit board manufacturing.
The Board of Investment attributed the inflows to accelerating global demand tied to artificial intelligence, next-generation semiconductors, electric vehicles and high-performance computing. Printed circuit boards represent the single largest slice of applications, with 224 projects valued at $9.85 billion, according to the agency.
Board of Investment Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said Thailand has emerged as a premier global manufacturing base for printed circuit boards amid global supply chain restructuring. He said more than half of the world’s top PCB manufacturers have now chosen Thailand as a production base, integrating local suppliers into their global technology ecosystems.
Market Growth And Industry Outlook
Thailand’s advanced electronics market is projected to be worth between $48 billion and $52 billion in 2026, based on Board of Investment estimates. Pitharn Ongkosit, president of the Thailand Printed Circuit Association, said the semiconductor and advanced packaging segments are projected to grow 15% to 20% a year, while demand connected to AI servers and data center infrastructure is climbing by as much as 22% annually, a trend he said signals advanced electronics is becoming a core driver of the Thai industrial economy.
Bangkok Trade Show To Showcase Momentum
To build on the investment momentum, the Board of Investment will host Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia 2026 alongside the Thailand Printed Circuit Association and the Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association from August 26 to 28 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The exposition is expected to draw more than 300 global enterprises and 7,000 industry professionals, following a 2025 edition that welcomed nearly 6,800 trade visitors from 43 countries.
