IHG Hotels & Resorts is preparing to bring its Kimpton lifestyle brand to Indonesia for the first time with the opening of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud later this year. The 101-key property sits on Jalan Bisma alongside the Wos River, placing it within walking distance of Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace and the Water Palace.
Accommodation at the hotel will range from standard guestrooms to pool suites and private pool villas. The property’s design, by architecture firm Denton Corker Marshall, follows the natural contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside setting, with the building’s form drawing on the rhythm of Balinese ceremonial processions.
Culinary And Wellness Programme
Food and beverage will be a central part of the property’s positioning. The hotel will operate five dining venues in total, anchored by Imamura Ubud, an omakase restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Hirofumi Imamura. Imamura will also oversee Shaku by Imamura, a second venue offering Japanese izakaya-style dining.
Wellness facilities will include a two-storey fitness studio, recovery facilities and Sakshi Spa, which will incorporate elements of Balinese healing traditions. Guests will also have access to Kimpton’s standard brand programming, including the daily Kimpton Kickstart coffee, tea and pastry service and the evening Kimpton Social gathering.
Leadership
Austin Jones has been named general manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud and will oversee the brand’s market entry into Indonesia. Jones has previously worked across nearly a dozen Kimpton properties. In a statement, Jones said the hotel is designed to feel “open, soulful, and connected” to both the landscape and the local community, with the aim of creating a gathering place for guests and residents alike.
The opening extends IHG’s broader push into Southeast Asia’s luxury and lifestyle hotel segment, following a wider regional development strategy the company outlined the same week that anchors growth in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam through 2027.
